Cross Stitch (also known as Outlander) is the first book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Series.
Book Summary: CLAIRE RANDALL IS LEADING A DOUBLE LIFE. SHE HAS A HUSBAND IN ONE CENTURY – AND A LOVER IN ANOTHER…
On holiday with her husband just after the war, she walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands and into a violent skirmish taking place in 1743 A wartime nurse, Claire can deal with the bloody wounds that face her;it is harder to deal with the knowledge that she is in Jacobite Scotland and the carnage of Culloden is looming. Marooned amid the passion and violence, the superstition, the shifting allegiances and the fervent loyalties, Claire is in terrible danger from Jacobites and Redcoats – and from the shock of her own desire for a courageous renegade. (Random House Australia)
My Thoughts: It took me quite some time to pick up this book after it was recommended to me by multiple friends but once I did I couldn’t put it down. Diana thrusts you in to the world of the Scottish Highlands with such attention to detail, it feels as though you are there with the characters. Her characters are believably real. Claire is feisty and witty, Jamie is a true warrior, hard and gruff but also endearingly tender and romantic. The story had me both laughing out loud and silently sobbing. I thoroughly recommend it!
