Book Description: Retra doesn’t want to go to Ixion, the island of ever-night. Retra is a Seal – sealed minds, sealed community. She doesn’t crave parties and pleasure like all the others. But her brother left for Ixion two years ago, and Retra is determined to find him.

Braving the pain of her obedience strip to escape the only home she’s ever known, Retra finds herself drawn deeper into the intoxicating world of Ixion. Come to me, whispers a voice in her head. Who are the Ripers, the mysterious guardians of Ixion? What are the Night Creatures Retra can see in the shadows? And what happens to those who grow too old for Ixion?

Retra will find that Ixion has its pleasures – but its secrets are deadly.

kellys reviewWhat a fantastic book by Marrianne de Pierres. It was so easy to immerse myself into Retra’s story and be lost in her tangled troubled life, that led her to Ixion in search of her brother, the intriguing characters of the Ripers, and what they may possibly be, and also the dangerous creatures of the night that lurk in every dark corner of Ixion.
Retra’s life as a seal is what helps her and keeps her safe in the beginning, the whole absence of immorality and selfishness in her though, also leads to her standing out as different and therefore one to be watched.
Ixion is a place of darkness and more dangerous than the party filled, drug fuelled lifestyle that the residents believe is the whole way of life. Danger and the unknown lurk in every dark corner.
is such an easy book to read and one I completely got lost in, the twists and turns and Retra’s new friendships and life changing decisions along the way make this a must have book. I cannot wait for Angel Arias later this year.

My Thoughts: Burn Bright had me fascinated from the moment I opened the book.

Ixion is a world of pleasure and delight, the total opposite of the sealed community where Retra grew up. Retra who was used to living by rules with limited social interactions and in virtual silence was thrust into Ixion’s society of partiers and was forced to conform to her new society. I enjoyed Retra’s story as she shook loose of her constraints and her inner strength began to shine through.

It was also great to meet and get to know Retra’s fascinating array of friends and colleagues, some of which had been at Ixion for awhile and had started to make surrogate families in the form of gangs. And then others who were new to Ixion like Retra but came from very different communities. It was interesting to read how they all interacted with each other and their new social setting.

Burn Bright is Marianne de Pierres much anticipated first Young Adult novel and the first in the Night Creatures trilogy. I recommend you get yourself a copy.

In a world where angels are beyond redemption, Alex thinks he’s found one that might deserve mercy. Alex is a ruthless assassin – of angels. Forget everything you’ve heard about them before. Angels are not benign celestial creatures, but fierce stalkers whose irresistible force allows them to feed off humans, draining them of their vitality until there is barely anything left.

As far as Alex is concerned, the only good angel is a dead angel…until he meets Willow. She may look like a normal teenager but Willow is no ordinary girl. Half-angel, half-human, Willow may hold the key to defeating the evil angels. But as the hunter and the hunted embark on an epic and dangerous journey and Willow learns the dark and terrifying secrets of her past, Alex finds himself drawn to Willow…with devastating consequences.

Eoin Colfer reinvented the fairy, Stephanie Meyer reinvented the vampire, L.A. Weatherly reinvents the angel! This is a heart-pounding, knuckle-whitening, paranormal romance action-adventure for fans of the “Twilight” series. This is the first in a devastating new trilogy.
