Cherie’s Review – Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel
Infinite Days, written by Rebecca Maizel, is a story about Lenah a 592 year old vampire who wakes only to find herself human and in the 21st century. The story is well written and the historical tinge to it lends credence to Lenah’s character. The way she goes about figuring out who she wants to be and how she has to go about getting there is in some parts moving and in others frustrating, the emotions Lenah experiences are almost tangible.
Infinite Days is a good read and the plot is easy to follow, the characters are likeable (or dislikable) and I really enjoyed the way in which the characters interacted with one another, however the only critisism (if you could call it that) is that it wasn’t long enough. I found myself visualising the characters as I read and found myself wondering how they would react to certain situations that arose.

Book Summary: For 500 years Lenah Beaudonte has been a vampire. 500 years of seduction, blood and destruction. But she is sickened by her dark powers – and longs to feel the sun on her skin, grass under her bare feet, and share the breath of a human kiss. She wants to be mortal again. But is she really capable of being human, after her long years of darkness? Waking up as a sixteen-year-old girl brings Lenah many things – the life she has missed, taste, touch, love. But a vampire soul is not easily shed. And her coven – the four vampires she led in decadence and thrilling destruction – want their queen back… (Pan Macmillan Australia)
My Thoughts: I had very high expectations of Rebecca Maizel’s debut novel and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved that this story centred around Lenah the vampire queen who has her humanity restored and becomes a 16 year old human girl, rather than your typical vampire storyline. The mingling of the past and present stories helped to give a little of the characters backgrounds and the storyline was enough to keep me reading right to the end.
I think that perhaps Lenah’s love for Rhode was not as dramatically expressed as I would have liked and the relationship between Lenah and Justin seemed to move to quickly. I felt like it was missing some of that teenage angst. Having said that though, there were times where I was moved to tears and I think that if an author can get a reaction like that then they have done a good job.
The ending was a little bit predictable but it was exactly what I wanted to happen so I’m not going to complain about that. It has been set up perfectly for a sequel which I am eagerly anticipating
My Rating: (out of 5)

In My Mailbox
My book blog is only very new but in that time I have been lucky enough to be sent two books to read and review.
The first is Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel, sent to me by Eliza from Pan Macmillan. Infinite Days has been published in the US but is not due out until the 1st of September here in Australia.
I am already most of the way through the book so far and I am really enjoying it. Keep you eye out for my review in the next couple of days.
The second book I have received was Carnal Sin by Allison Brennan, which was sent to me by Toby at Random House. Carnal Sin is the second book in the Seven Deadly Sins Series. You can read my review of Original Sin (the first book in the series) here! I will be reading and reviewing it as soon as I am finished with Infinite Days.
The Story Siren runs a meme called In My Mailbox where Book Bloggers can interact and talk about the books they have recieved in their mailbox. Go and check it out!
