To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.

Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.

Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.

Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they’re triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.

These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful Gorgon maligned in myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique world where monsters lurk in plain sight.

The murder of her parents has left Silla damaged and lost, and Silla’s insistence that her father is not to blame only alienates her further from her friends and family. When a mysterious spell book arrives, Silla hopes it will lead to some answers about her parents’ killer. In her first attempt at magic, in an old graveyard near her home, Nick, the new boy in town spies on her; he recognizes the magic that Silla is performing as the same magic his mother performed with him, before she went mad.
Before long, Silla and Nick connect, though Nick is unwilling to share his history with blood magic with Silla. When Silla’s friends start showing signs of possession, Silla, Nick and Silla’s brother, Reese, must contend with a deadly, immortal woman who will stop at nothing to take the book of spells from them.

Review – Firelight by Sophie Jordan

firelight by sophie jordanTitle:   (Book #1)

Release Date: October 2010 (Aus)
Publishers: HarperCollins (Aus)

Book Summary: Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will’s dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She’ll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

My Thoughts: I literally just finished reading Firelight and all I can say is “I want more!!!”

I was excited to read something a little different in the Young Adult paranormal genre. I’ve read books about vampires, wolves, witches and wizards but never before have I read about dragons. Sophie Jordan’s first book in the Draki series certainly didn’t disappoint.

The story was essentially a romance between Jacinda and Will, with just enough mythology to help you understand the Draki without getting bogged down in history.

Sophie’s characters were real and relateable and I am eager to learn more about them all. The first book was, for the most part about Jacinda with just enough detail about the other characters to get you intrigued and wanting more.

I like sweet, caring Will but I also like Cassain, ok he’s a little stalkerish, possessive and bossy, but I think there may just be another side to him which I hope Sophie delves into in the next book.

All up I thought it was a great book, a nice quick and easy read that left me wanted more.

My Rating: (out of 5)

Holiday Reading – Firelight by Sophie Jordan

I love the Christmas holidays! For me it’s a break from the usual routine of getting the kids ready for school, cleaning the house, preparing meals, baths, helping with homework and all those other “Mummy” duties! I have a little army of five here, so with their help the chores get done quicker which gives us all more time to play! And with this new found play time I am planning on getting a book or two read :)

A little birdy whispered in my ear that I may just be getting a iPad from Santa this year, which had me jumping for joy and squeeing all over the place. A new toy and a book fetish enabler all in one device, I am seriously excited!!! So excited infact, that I have already compiled a list of iPad friendly books that will be purchased on Christmas Day and enjoyed during the holidays!

Over the next few weeks I’m going to be writing about the books that I will be endeavouring to read during my break in routine. I’ll also be writing reviews for the books I get to finish, so keep your eye out for them.

If you are doing something similar on you blog, leave me a comment with a link and I’ll come and visit you :)
